Pollen Vortex
This is what it looks like at my house lately....... pass the tissues!!!
It's good to know that I'm not alone. I was watching a story on the NBC Nightly News about the Pollen Vortex
For those of you who had extra long winters, you may be getting a little bit of a break because the ground is still frozen. So things in your area may not be blooming yet. But when it does start to warm up, you could get hit all at once with pollen.
One of the quotes from the story above said:
"But before you throw away the tissues, experts say the slow start could mean a more intense wallop. “It will be a shorter period by a number of weeks but you will see it all hitting very intensely,” says Dr. Shulan." (Dr. Shulan is from the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology)
So, instead of the tress releasing pollen at different times throughout the spring, they may all release their pollen at the same time. So you could suddenly be hit with ALL of the trees releasing all of their pollen for Spring- all at the same time.
This could be one awful spring. Some areas of the country had less snow, so they may not be affected as much. But if you had LOTS of snow this year, and things are just starting to warm up - fair warning!!! You may get hit with lots of pollen.
Watch the video on NBC for help in dealing with allergies. They list 3 new allergy medications that dissolve under the tongue (instead of needing allergy shots.) They also list other things you can do before you go to bed at night to reduce the effects of pollen.
Spring is a beautiful time of year, but it also causes misery for those of us with allergies. And allergies can also affect asthma. If you are struggling with allergies or asthma, talk to your doctor about new medications or ideas of how to treat your allergies.
Until then, stock up on tissues!!
Oh, I'm so sorry! Last year was the same in all Europe. But this year we in Poland had very mild winter, but also rainy beginning of spring, so that's why we had problem with birch.
ReplyDeleteI wish You solving Your problems with this aggressive allergy.
Greetings for You :)
Good luck with the birch tree pollen!
