Got teenagers? Want them to earn $1,000 for an asthma research study?

Do your eyes glaze over when someone talks about asthma research?

I usually ignore ads or emails, but I was recruited to be part of research project because they wanted my input as an Asthma Mom.

Okay! How much time did they have? I could talk their leg off sharing experiences. Bahahaha!

I was able to help guide the researchers in developing an app to track asthma symptoms. I suggested they include ALL kids under 18  (they wanted to stop at 12 year olds.)

(Y'all know how teenagers never tell you anything. They in their room, brooding......) This app would notify the parents and the doctor if their son or daughter dropped into their red zone.

They also wanted track missed school and work days. I suggested they track part of a missed school or work day (what if they are late because they were doing a breathing treatment before school, or they had to leave early for allergy shots? They might not miss a full day of school.

So, my part of the research was just giving ideas.

But some researchers need people to try out new asthma medications to see how they affect the body and how safe they are.

And they are willing to pay! Wahoo!

The Amber Study will pay teens $1,000 for their time and out of pocket expenses (depending on how many visits they attend.) Their website says:

"The AMBER Study, with its mix of study center, home and “virtual” visits, is designed to fit around your life"

I have several friends who have participated in asthma medication trials. But is it right for you and your kids?

The Amber Study says:

"Taking part in clinical research requires careful thought. Before you and your parents/caregivers decide whether you want to participate, make sure you all understand any potential risks involved. There is no guarantee that you will benefit from taking part in the AMBER Study."

"And remember, you don’t have to join the AMBER Study. And you are free to leave at any time and for any reason."

Feel free to check the website and see if it's right for you. And it might be nice to have your kids earn $1,000. (That could pay for their car insurance! ha!)
