I came across your blog and I would appreciate it if I could get a few answers for my user research to be able to design a product that would best fit the needs. I'm so glad you switched roommates. You needed someone to keep you safe!

My family knows not to bring seafood into the house, but my husband sometimes goes out to eat for lunch and orders seafood. If he's with one of my kids, he'll tell them "remind me to tell mom that I ate seafood. I don't want to forget and kiss her and give her an allergic reaction!"

I hope work is going well and your pregnancy isn't too bad. Do they think the twins will come early? My three adult children and I all have different asthma triggers and different treatment plans.

And asthma triggers can change over time. Perfume didn't bother me until I hit my 50's. Stupid asthma!

Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) says:

"There is no evidence that essential oils can help asthma. In fact, breathing in the particles released by the oils may trigger an asthma attack."

"The strong odors emitted by essential oils contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs). VOCs affect indoor air quality, just like incense, air fresheners and scented candles. Poor indoor air quality can make you sick with asthma, allergies and other illnesses"

If essential oils don't bother you and they are part of your treatment plan, then that's what works for you :)

Personally, I have had multiple asthma attacks from essential oils and they are not part of my treatment plan.

You can see from this thread that everyone is allowed to state their opinion, just as you have. You seem to be in the minority, you poor thing!

We are all different and need to find what is right for our asthma ;)

Wishing you health and happiness! During my child's asthmatic episodes I use Albuterol and Flovant medication to help manage his symptoms. One of the tools I like to use during these episodes is Pulse Oximeter to help assess his oxygen level and based on the data I make the decision to continue or stop the medication of Albuterol.
One of the major problems I see in using the pulse oximeters on 2 to 5 year old kids is the inability to hold their little finger steady for 10 to 15 seconds until a valid reading is taken. Which kept me wondering, am I the only one who is seeing this problem with my kid or is it a problem wide spread ? As a passionate engineer I would like to solve this problem of pulse oximeters for kids. But, I wanted to validate my problem statement with a larger community of people. I would like your help in posting a few questions to your active user community in your blog. These poll questions will help me tremendously to navigate my pursuit of a better pulse oximeter for kids and very elderly.

Please let me know if you can post a poll question for me on your blog?

Thanks,
Jakes.

jakeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06340331404626687812noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7856422208388515286.post-18148204695472889182020-10-25T23:48:15.455-07:002020-10-25T23:48:15.455-07:00this is a very useful article thanks for sharing t...this is a very useful article thanks for sharing this information it is a very useful sitehealthfirstcenterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02354535908800878866noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7856422208388515286.post-78957504461366705502020-09-25T05:38:22.736-07:002020-09-25T05:38:22.736-07:00I wish I'd known (or my doctors had) about the...I wish I'd known (or my doctors had) about the different types of asthma. They also always check with me to make sure I'm okay with the price, and take a minute to answer any questions. Sometimes I'm in a hurry and just want to pay and go. But most of the time I appreciate the extra time it takes to go over it. I was just diagnosed with moderate asthma a few months ago and am trying to navigate all the medications for the first time. My office is helping on COVID.

Not only is Oral Allergy Syndrome bizarre, but it causes more problems during pollen season. So, if your son can't each cantaloupe now, he MAY be able to eat it in February (of course it would be hard to find then!)

Here's information from Allergy and Asthma Network, they are a great resource:

"Onset of symptoms may seem random. Some people are only bothered during pollen season, but the rest of the year they can eat pollen-related foods with no problem. OAS symptoms usually occur to only fresh fruits and vegetables, not to the cooked form of these vegetables."

"So, if you’re allergic to ragweed, a melon in February (when ragweed is dormant) may not bother you at all, while one in September (when ragweed pollen counts are high) could set off symptoms with the first bite."

"Some people with OAS will react to fresh foods but not cooked or canned varieties. If you have grass allergy, for instance, you may be able to eat tomato sauce on pizza but develop itchy mouth from fresh tomato in a salad. Others may find they can eat certain varieties of a fruit (Macintosh apples versus Granny Smith, for instance) or fruits without their skins."

https://allergyasthmanetwork.org/health-a-z/oral-allergy-syndrome/

I hear you about allergy shots! My 3 kids all had allergy shots, so we were at Asthma Doc's office at least once a week for 10 years (they were all on a different cycle for shots......sigh)

However, I saw a story that a medication had been approved for Oral Allergy Syndrome. I think it was Xolair, but I can't find the story online. Xolair has been around for 20 years, and is given by injection once or twice a month for severe asthma. My son had Xolair injections for 7 years - it was the only thing that kept him out of the hospital.

But - Xolair received "Breakthrough" status from the FDA in 2018 to be developed and tested for use with food allergies.

Ask your doctor if he knows anything about that. I can't find a press release about final approval.

I am wondering if Xolair was the drug in the news story that was approved for Oral Allergy Syndrome? Or maybe it was also given breakthrough status?

I'm sorry your son is having a tough time. We didn't exactly hit the genetic lottery and have a host of other medical conditions too.

Good luck with your son! :)

Andrea My Life as an Asthma Momhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13702075700890289018noreply@blogger.com
